Minimum Qualifications:

                                MA or equivalent degree in School Administration or related field

Level Three-B-New Mexico Administrative License

Prior teaching experience

5 years of prior administrative experience as a building principal or comparable district level administrative position

 

Skills/Aptitudes:

Good organizational ability; good written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities of Assistant Superintendent:

  • Provide educational leadership, administrative direction, supervision, and technical assistance and support to schools, departments and programs.
  • Demonstrate and develop high academic and behavioral expectations, collaborative planning and program development.
  • Conduct classroom visits to assess educational and operational effectiveness and assist school administrators to establish and maintain a positive learning and working environment.
  • Provide guidance and available resources to school administrators which will assist and maintain an effective educational environment.
  • Direct, coordinate, monitor, implement, and assess preK-12 Instructional programs.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the curriculum with State Standards and Benchmarks and/or Common Core State Standards.
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers in the implementation and operations of instructional programs.
  • Provides leadership in continuous school improvement efforts and demonstrate leadership.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of instructional theory.
  • Monitors and facilitates meetings and programs to meet established goals.
  • In collaboration with the principals, develop, review, and amend Parent and Community Involvement Plans as required by NM PED and Federal programs.
  • Develop, review, amend, and implement the School/Districts 90 day plans.
  • Evaluation and direction of School Improvement Plans.
  • Oversee the development of the Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee the development of the District Budget.
  • Review and oversee District Policies.
  • Oversee the development of the District’s Calendar.
  • Oversee all preK-12 Instructional Schedules.
  • Oversee the District’s Instructional Material Ordering
  • Prepare analyses of the District’s academic outcomes data, including: short-cycle assessments, Renaissance programs, A+, NMSBA, teacher-assigned grades, graduation rates, IHE placement assessments, and post-secondary remediation rates.
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for teachers and staff.
  • Attend all Board meetings unless excused by the Superintendent.
  • With the assistance of the Principals and Program Coordinators, review and compile all information for the school district relevant to pupil membership accounting inclusive of 40th, 80th, 120th, and End of Year Reporting Days, through the STARs system.
  • Review and update Accu Roster to ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee Native American Program to ensure it is meeting the goals set by the District.
  • Develop and publish the Annual Accountability Report (School District Portfolio) following approval by the Superintendent.
  • Supervise and evaluate district technology staff.
  • Supervise and chair Technology Committee meetings and coordinate the development and implementation of the district’s technology plan.
  • Maintain an inventory of all district technology hardware and software and a long-range technology replacement plan.                                                                                                                                               
  • Provide leadership and direction for the development, revision and continuous improvement of district technology systems.
  • Plan and coordinate the budget process for acquisition of district hardware, software and other technology-related expenditures.
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate technology-related management systems and policies.
  • Chair Educational Foundation/District Technology committee, and District Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).
  • In necessary situations, serve as the Superintendent’s designee.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
